Key takeaways
- Rhode Island has no IKEA store or Plan & Order Point. IKEA's store locator lists only a pick-up point in Providence for online orders.
- IKEA Stoughton in Massachusetts is the nearest store for most of the state: about 34 miles from downtown Providence and 30 from Pawtucket. Westerly is the exception and sits closer to IKEA New Haven.
- A whole kitchen weighs more than 500 lb, so IKEA offers it only with in-home delivery, into one room, with an adult at home.
- Installation in Rhode Island runs $125–$225 per standard cabinet, about $2,500–$4,500 for a 10x10 kitchen of roughly 20 cabinets.

No. As of November 2026 there is no IKEA store in Rhode Island, and none of the US openings IKEA has announced for 2026 is in the state. IKEA's store locator does list a pick-up point in Providence, but that is a counter for collecting online orders, not a place to see kitchens or plan one.
For almost everyone in Rhode Island the nearest full IKEA is IKEA Stoughton in Massachusetts, off Route 24, about 34 miles from downtown Providence. IKEA New Haven in Connecticut is more than 100 miles from Providence and only wins in the far southwest corner of the state, around Westerly.
That is a minor detour for a bookcase. For a kitchen it shapes the whole project: where you plan it, how the boxes reach your house, and what happens when a hinge pack turns up missing on install day. Below is the nearest store from each part of Rhode Island, what the Providence pick-up point is good for, what an IKEA kitchen costs here, and how we install them across the state.
The nearest IKEA from every part of Rhode Island
Distances are approximate free-flow driving miles from each town center. Summer traffic on Route 24 and I-95 adds time, not miles.
| Where you live | Nearest IKEA | About |
|---|---|---|
| Pawtucket, Cumberland | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 30 miles |
| Providence | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 34 miles (New Haven is 100+) |
| Lincoln | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 34 miles |
| Woonsocket | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 35 miles |
| Smithfield | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 38 miles |
| Cranston | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 42 miles |
| Tiverton | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 42 miles |
| Bristol, Barrington | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 43 miles |
| Warwick | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 45 miles |
| West Warwick | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 48 miles (New Haven about 86) |
| Coventry | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 56 miles (New Haven about 88) |
| Newport | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 56 miles |
| North Kingstown | IKEA Stoughton, MA | 56 miles |
| South Kingstown | Close to a tie | 69 to Stoughton, 83 to New Haven |
| Westerly | IKEA New Haven, CT | 66 miles (Stoughton is 81) |
From Newport the drive runs north on Route 24 through Tiverton and Fall River, over the Sakonnet River Bridge, which has carried no toll since 2015. From South County the two stores take about the same time, so pick the one you would rather drive to when you need a forgotten part.
Is IKEA opening a store in Rhode Island?
Not that IKEA has announced. Its US annual summary and 2026 store plans name new locations in other states, and Rhode Island is not among them. If that changes, everything below still applies; only the drive gets shorter.
What the Providence pick-up point is for
IKEA's store locator lists a pick-up point in Providence for online orders. You order on ikea.com, choose that location at checkout, and collect with your order number and photo ID once IKEA says the order is ready. There is no showroom and no kitchen staff, and you can't add items at the counter.
That makes it useful for the small things a kitchen job turns up: a missing cover panel, one more filler, a second pack of hinges. It is not a realistic way to receive a whole kitchen, which can arrive in more than 100 packages. Fees and holding times for pick-up points change, so check them on IKEA's site when you order.
Planning an IKEA kitchen without a store nearby
You have three good options, and most of our Rhode Island customers use a mix.
- Plan online. IKEA's Kitchen Planner runs in a browser. Save the design, then export the plan drawing and the item list. Our guide to using the IKEA kitchen planner walks through it, and how to measure your kitchen covers the measurements it needs.
- Visit IKEA Stoughton's kitchen department to see the doors, drawers and colors in person. Fronts look different under store lights than they do on a screen, so it is worth one trip before ordering. Our door style guide helps narrow it down first.
- From South County or Westerly, try IKEA New Haven. Its Kitchen Services team books measuring, planning and plan-check appointments with kitchen staff.
Whichever route you take, send us the plan before you order. We read it as the people who will hang it: missing fillers and cover panels, appliance openings, hinge counts, wall cabinet heights against your ceiling, and clearance at radiators and window casings. The review is free, and an itemized price comes back within 3 business hours. Our guide to reading the IKEA order list explains what each line means.

Getting the kitchen delivered to Rhode Island
IKEA delivers the kitchen; installers don't haul orders. A few rules decide how smoothly delivery day goes.
- Kitchen-size orders get in-home delivery only. At the time of writing, IKEA orders over 500 lb qualify only for its in-home options, which bring everything into one room you choose, with an adult at home to receive it.
- Ask about stairs before you book. IKEA's delivery page does not say how many flights the crew will climb. In a second- or third-floor apartment, the usual case in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls and Woonsocket triple-deckers, ask before you pay.
- Narrow streets and long driveways. On Newport's Point and Historic Hill the truck may only be able to stop at the curb. On rural South County lots, tell IKEA if a box truck can't reach the door.
- Pick a staging room. A 20-cabinet order fills a good part of a living room. A spare room near the kitchen, or a dry garage, keeps the cartons out of the way.
We set our start date after IKEA's delivery window, and the first morning goes to counting every carton against your order list. Anything missing or damaged gets reported to IKEA the same day; our missing-parts guide explains why that first-day count matters so much when the nearest store is 30 to 80 miles away.

Dark navy base cabinets and a full-height tall unit finished with a light wood countertop. The tall unit is the heaviest box in most kitchens, and the one to ask IKEA about before a stair carry.
What an IKEA kitchen costs in Rhode Island
Installation labor is priced per cabinet from your IKEA item list. These are our 2026 rates for Rhode Island, the same as in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
| Line | Typical 2026 price |
|---|---|
| Standard base or wall cabinet, assembled and installed | $125–$225 each |
| Tall pantry or oven unit | add $75–$150 each |
| Corner unit | add $100–$200 each |
| Island or peninsula | add $300–$1,200 |
| Removing the old kitchen, haul-away included | $500–$1,500 |
| Countertop templating and installation (material extra) | $500–$1,000 |
| Appliance installation (hookups by licensed trades) | $150–$400 each |
| Tile backsplash installation (tile extra) | $600–$1,800 |
| Soffit above the wall cabinets | $600–$2,000 |
A 10x10 kitchen has about 20 cabinets, so installation runs about $2,500–$4,500. All-in, with IKEA cabinets, a countertop and installation, a 10x10 kitchen comes to roughly $7,000–$10,000 for a value build, $11,000–$16,000 for a mid-range build with quartz, and $17,000–$24,000 for a premium build, before appliances. The 10x10 cost guide breaks down every line, and the cost calculator gives a first number for your layout.
Where a Rhode Island job lands in that range depends on the house more than the town:
- Toward the top: plaster walls, a floor that needs the base shimmed, a third-floor carry and a chimney chase in the way. That describes plenty of kitchens on Providence's East Side and in Fox Point, Pawtucket and Woonsocket.
- In the middle: colonials and older capes in Cranston, Bristol and Barrington, and most of Aquidneck Island outside old Newport.
- Toward the bottom: a 1960s ranch in Johnston, North Providence or Warwick with drywall, square walls and a driveway.
In old Newport, expect the upper half: old framing means more shimming and scribing per box, and short walls add fillers and cover panels.
Rhode Island rules worth knowing before demolition
Contractor registration. Rhode Island requires contractors who work on homes to register with the Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board. You can look anyone up at crb.ri.gov, and the registration number should appear on the contract. Our guide to verifying an installer in MA, CT and RI shows each lookup.
Permits. Rhode Island's code treats cabinets and countertops as finish work, so replacing cabinets where the old ones stood usually needs no building permit. Moving a sink, a range, a gas line or a wall is different: licensed plumbers, electricians and gas fitters pull their own permits. Ask your city or town building office before demolition if anything moves. Our permit guide covers all three states.
Lead paint. In a house built before 1978, tearing out painted cabinets, trim and plaster disturbs paint that may contain lead. That part of the job calls for lead-safe containment and cleanup by a properly licensed firm, which adds cost; ask for it as its own line on the quote.
Newport's Historic District Commission. The HDC has no jurisdiction over interiors, only exteriors. The cabinets are outside its remit, but a new window over the sink or a range hood vented through an exterior wall can need its review.
Rhode Island, region by region
- Providence, Pawtucket and the East Bay. Triple-deckers, plaster, tall East Side ceilings and tight curb space. See IKEA kitchen installation in Providence.
- Warwick, Cranston and the Pawtuxet Valley. Mostly houses with driveways, which makes delivery simple. See Warwick and Cranston.
- Woonsocket and northern Rhode Island. Triple-deckers and ranches about 30 to 38 miles from IKEA Stoughton. See Woonsocket and northern RI.
- Newport and Aquidneck Island. Old framing, narrow streets and many second homes. See Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth.
- South County and Westerly. The one part of the state where IKEA New Haven competes. See South Kingstown and South County.
Our Rhode Island page covers the whole state.

How a Rhode Island install runs with us
- Plan review and price. Send the IKEA Planner PDF, the item list and a few photos of the room and the stairs. You get an itemized price within 3 business hours, with no site visit needed for most jobs.
- You order and book delivery from IKEA Stoughton, IKEA New Haven or ikea.com, choosing an in-home option.
- We schedule the start after IKEA's delivery window and count every carton on the first morning.
- Installation takes one to two days for a small galley, three to four for a typical L- or U-shaped kitchen, and five to seven for a large kitchen with an island and a pantry wall. Add a day if we remove the old kitchen.
- Countertops follow. Laminate and butcher block are cut on site. Quartz and granite are templated once the cabinets are set and take one to two weeks to fabricate.
- Every installation carries our 5-year workmanship warranty.
Frequently asked questions
No. As of November 2026 Rhode Island has no IKEA store or Plan & Order Point, and IKEA's announced 2026 openings are in other states. IKEA's store locator lists a pick-up point in Providence for collecting online orders, but there is no showroom or kitchen department in the state.
IKEA Stoughton in Massachusetts, off Route 24, about 34 miles from downtown Providence. IKEA New Haven is more than 100 miles away. Only from the Westerly area is New Haven closer, at about 66 miles against 81 to Stoughton.
Yes, if you order online and choose the Providence pick-up point at checkout, then collect with your order number and photo ID. It suits small follow-up orders such as panels, fillers or hinges. A whole kitchen is better delivered, because it can arrive in more than 100 packages. Check IKEA's site for current pick-up fees and holding times.
Yes. At the time of writing, orders over 500 lb, which includes almost any kitchen, qualify only for IKEA's in-home delivery options. Those bring everything into one room you choose, with an adult at home. If you live on a second or third floor, ask IKEA how stairs are handled before you book.
Our 2026 rate is $125–$225 per standard cabinet, assembled and installed, so a 10x10 kitchen of about 20 cabinets costs about $2,500–$4,500 to install. Tall units add $75–$150 each, corner units $100–$200 and an island $300–$1,200. All-in, a mid-range 10x10 IKEA kitchen with quartz usually lands between $11,000 and $16,000 before appliances.
Usually not for the cabinets themselves, because Rhode Island's code treats cabinets and countertops as finish work. Moving plumbing, gas, electrical or walls does need permits, and licensed trades pull them. Confirm with your city or town building office before demolition if anything in the layout moves.
